Dubai: The jogging track spanning seven kilometres that is part of the Jumeirah Corniche project boasts a host of environment friendly features. The materials that have gone into the making of the track as well as the lighting system used for the project should rank it among the greenest such ventures in the country.
According to designers working on the project, the lighting system installed along the jogging track consumes 50 per cent less power then conventional lamps.
“Not only will the LED system that we are installing consume 50 per cent less energy, it will also ensure less carbon dioxide emissions, reduced operational cost and no use of high pressure sodium and CMH lamps,” said Essam Al Mazroui, Managing Director of Bahri and Mazroei Group, which is implementing the system.
The multi-million contract mandates implementation of sustainable lighting solutions that integrate smart technology embedded in the light poles to enable multiple functions targeting reduced power consumption and operational costs, in addition to enhancing the distinctive identity and aesthetic character of the city.
Al Mazroui said that the use of LED lights ensured many benefits in the form of better colour rendering, less power consumption, and aesthetic appearance, while reflecting Dubai’s vision of innovation in design, creativity, smart multifunction options and enhanced visitor experience.
The smart pole has multiple lighting configurations and additional features suitable for different user needs in the modern urban space.
“The versatility of the ModulLum range, with its different modules as well as variable diameters and heights, guarantees a perfect match between the column and its architectural environment. The installation is expected to enhance visitor experience to Jumeirah Corniche as well as facilitate jogging activities in the evening,” Al Mazroui said.
The jogging track, which is part of the 14 kilometre long Jumeirah redevelopment project, was partially opened to the public recently.
The four-metre wide track will have 357 lightheads on 6-metre poles and 241 lightheads on 4-metre poles.
Phase two of the Dh100 million project was opened to the public last week, while the third phase is set to be ready by the end of next month.
The project, undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority, includes a five metre wide walking track as well as the extension of existing cycling tracks.
Once ready, the corniche, which currently houses several open beaches will become Dubai’s longest corniche and the social and sports hub of the city, offering recreational facilities, rest areas as well as retail kiosks and shaded benches overlooking the beach.
Launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minster of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as a healthy lifestyle hub, the project extending from Burj Al Arab to Jumeirah Grand Mosque will facilitate a variety of sports activities including jogging, walking, swimming, rowing among others to cater to families and fitness enthusiasts.
