Youngsters look good on the dance floor and raise cash for charity

‘Dance My Community' event helps Palestine Red Crescent Society

Dubai: Scores of young people from various groups in the UAE on Saturday donned their dancing shoes at the American University in Dubai to raise funds for the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

The event, called ‘Dance My Community', was organised by Rotaract Club of Jumeirah, a volunteer organisation.

Nine sets of multinational dances ranging from Dabke, an Arab folk dance, to break dancing and a Michael Jackson impersonation, entertained the crowd.

The Rotaract Club is composed of young professionals ages 18 to 30 who engage in activities that mainly benefit different communities.

For Saturday's event, the organisation was able to raise more than Dh30,000 through ticket sales and donations for the PRCS.

Here to help

"We are here to help communities, to make this world a better place dir-ectly or indirectly," club president Mahdi Trimech told Gulf News.

"When you help poor people, when you help people with no education, etcetera, indirectly you bring peace to the world."

Trimech said the organisation operates with the concept of giving in whatever way possible to those in need.

"Sometimes when you go to rural areas, you can find many people to help or many things to improve," Trimech said.

"Here in Dubai it's a little different.

"So what we try to do here, we raise funds and help people in other places around the world."

Last year, the club brought together fashion designers for the ‘Fashion My Community' initiative and raised more than Dh36,000 for Senses Residential Care Home for Children with Special Needs.
