Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday launched the voluntary week initiative to help come up with new ideas in the field of volunteer work.
Shaikh Mohammad launched the initiative during a meeting with 100 Emirati youth volunteers at the Mohammad Bin Rashid Majlis for Policies. The volunteers were involved in individual and group social communication networking voluntary initiatives.
Shaikh Mohammad said that the UAE community was founded on love of goodness and charity, and said that Emirati youth are not an affluent class that is isolated from society, but their hearts are filled with goodness and benevolence.
He underlined during the meeting that the UAE possesses soft international power that is a source of pride for the UAE, which is the nation’s humanitarian, charitable and volunteer initiatives that do not distinguish between race, colour or religion, and is provided for persons.
He said that the UAE is not only an international financial centre or a global economic hub, but it is also a major humanitarian centre on the world stage.
“I have been joyfully following up on all individual and group voluntary initiatives. I’m pleased with innovative ideas of youth in the field of volunteering, humanitarian and societal work,” said Shaikh Mohammad. Goodness lies in all individuals of a society, but we need more fresh ideas to stimulate it,” Shaikh Mohammad added.
He told the volunteers to come up with 50 ideas from which some will be selected and launched in the field of volunteer work during volunteer week. “It is not limited to the needy only. We want voluntary work to cover wider categories,” said Shaikh Mohammad.
Mohammad presents certificates to officer cadets
Meanwhule, Shaikh Mohammad yesterday presented certificates to 90 officer cadets comprising the 21st batch of officer cadets graduated from the Joint Command and Staff College.
Shaikh Mohammad congratulated the graduates on their academic achievement.
He said the college is one of the country’s landmark institutions which offer opportunities for Emirati citizens to pursue their military education to serve their nation through their engagement in the UAE Armed Forces, a national military institution, which receives a great attention from the UAE’s leadership.
He added that the college provides the Armed Forces with highly trained military staff empowered with education, knowledge and practical training, to meet the requirements for safeguarding the nation and its gains.
The graduation ceremony, held at the college’s headquarters, was attended by Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, other shaikhs, a number of senior officials, diplomats and relatives of the cadets.
