Abu Dhabi: Members of the Coptic community are mourning the death of Pope Shenouda III, who died on Saturday in Egypt after battling liver and lung problems for several years, according to official reports.

The St Anthony Coptic Cathedral in the capital has begun receiving condolences from members of the public, the Egyptian embassy and governmental officials.

It will conduct a memorial service and gathering on Sunday night between 6pm to 10pm, with additional services to take place later this week.

In Dubai, a sense of deep loss and shock prevailed among the members of the Coptic community with the death of Pope Shenouda III.

The St Mina Coptic Church in Jebel Ali will conduct memorial service and gathering for three days, starting on Sunday from 6pm to 8pm.
