The Dubai Traffic Police Department recorded 2,588 serious traffic accidents in 2014, 100 accidents less than 2013.

Traffic statistics for 2014 released by Dubai Traffic Police on Sunday showed that there were 159 traffic deaths, 179 people were seriously injured, 678 moderately injured and 1,166 sustained minor injuries.

In 2013, there were 2,688 accidents, 147 deaths, 185 people were seriously injured, 616 were moderately injured and 1,337 sustained minor injuries.

In 2014, the five most dangerous roads in the emirate were Emirates Road with 24 traffic deaths,Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road with 23 traffic deaths, Shaikh Zayed Road with 15 deaths followed by Al Khail Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road with nine deaths each.

In 2014, there were 520 accidents caused by sudden swerving that killed 46 people, and 740 accidents killing 41 in 2013.

Between January and November 2014, the Dubai Traffic Police department issued 40,957 fines to motorists who were using their mobile phones while driving.
