Sharjah Ramadan and Eid Fair opens

24-day fair to feature shopping, cooking,and religious activities

Sharjah:The 27th edition of the Ramadan and Eid Fair opened its doors to the public yesterday in celebration of the holy month at Sharjah’s Expo Centre. Open until August 10, the shopping and entertainment carnival was inaugurated by Saeed Obaid Al Jarwan, Second Vice Chairman, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“This year, more than 200 exhibitors from across the world are showcasing an extensive range of household and lifestyle products at the show,” said Al Jarwan.

The festival will include shopping and entertainment activities, along with special cuisine weeks, charity events, health initiatives and religious programmes.

During Ramadan, the fair’s programme will feature Islamic lectures every Thursday in different languages by renowned scholars such as Al Shaikh Dr Mohammad Ghaith Al Ghaith (in Arabic), Al Shaikh Ehab Nadir (in English), Al Shaikh Zafar Al Hussein (in Urdu) and Al Shaikh Eisa Jaffer (in Tagalog).

This year, a cuisine week titled ‘Taste of Ramadan Cuisine Week’ will be added to the programme of events, where renowned chefs will be teaching and demonstrating how to prepare healthy and easy dishes. Local cuisines that are popular and usually consumed during Ramadan will also be cooked in front of the audience, along with other international dishes.

Featured chefs will include Zakir from Pakistan whose session will be covered live and shown on HUM Masala TV, Sharjah and Fatafeet TV channels on August 4-5.

Fatafeat TV celebrity and Meat and Livestock Australia MENA’s corporate executive chef Tarik Ebrahim will also conduct a cookery demonstration.

Children will also be entertained throughout the 24-day shopping fair by enjoying magic shows, face painting, quiz competitions, cartoon characters and folk dances.

Shoppers who purchase a minimum of Dh100 at the fair this year, will also have the chance to win prizes such as air tickets, iPads, flat screen TVs, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and dinner sets.
