Workers who keep Dubai moving 24 hours a day, seven days a week, were lauded through various activities to mark the Ruler’s accession day yesterday, celebrated through the ‘Thanks to You’ campaign.

As per the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the day is dedicated to thank and honour general labour staff such as farmers, domestic workers, janitors, public transportation drivers, construction workers and office support workers among others. Last year, the celebrations honoured orphans and mothers.

In response to the campaign, several companies shared photos via Twitter of their January 4 celebrations honouring employees. The Dubai Women Establishment, Ministry of Economy and Watani Programme uploaded photos via photo-sharing applications Instagram and Facebook.

Others chose to tweet their choice of activity. Dubai Customs (@DubaiCustomsCSR) said it distributed winter overcoats and breakfast meals to the cleaners.

Etisalat (@EtisalatUAE) said, “We will be out today in support of @HHShkMohd #Thankstoyou campaign giving free minutes to those that help make UAE the best
place to live!”

At Dubai Mall, public offerings of flowers were placed below a board which reads “Thank you Shaikh Mohammad for your kindness”.

The General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments dedicated the Friday prayer sermon, titled ‘Thanking the labour’, to the campaign as well.

In the past few days, the city witnessed several acts of appreciation. Dubai Municipality honoured 50 municipal workers, Al-Futtaim Motors honoured 15 general labour staff for their exceptional contribution and du organised internal and external activities at its office and at Sonapur labour camp.

The accession day this year signifies seven years for Shaikh Mohammad as Ruler of Dubai.
