With regards to the recent US study by the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, which revealed that religious discrimination often plays a significant role in the hiring process; I strongly believe that man, at any point of time should be known by his deeds and not by his religion. As far as discrimination or clash on the basis of religion, I disagree that this has anything to do with what religion I belong to. At the end of the day, it all comes down to being a good human being, and if I am not being recognised for that, then that is where the concern lies and not with my religion. Irrespective of what religion we hold, we should spread goodness and be humans to humans as no religion teaches us to be cruel or to disrespect others. It all depends on the mind-set and once that is changed, all will fall in place – respect, sincerity and understanding. I have witnessed religious bias in the workplace, but if we stand by it, we are also part of it. Religion is not and should not be used as a parameter in the hiring process as one should be scrutinised over his or her capabilities and not religion. The rise in religious discrimination is prevalent in most advanced societies and is the main cause of the downfall of many cultures but at the end of the day, how do you remember a person? Is his religion more important than his actions? Let’s all rise above this discrimination and be friends.
