Dubai: More than 1.2 million Pakistani expatriates in the UAE will celebrate their country's 65th Independence Day on Sunday.

The official flag-hoisting ceremonies will be held at 8am at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and its Consulate General in Dubai.

Ambassador for Pakistan Jamil Ahmad Khan will hoist the flag in the presence of large gathering of Pakistani community members while messages from the country's president and prime minister will be read out.

Tariq Iqbal Soomro, the Consul General, will unfurl the national flag at the consulate. "We expect the community members to attend the ceremony along with their families," said Zahid Parveen at press consular at the embassy. The Pakistan missions will remain closed on the day.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Professional Wing will hold Independence Day celebrations at the Pakistan Education Academy.
