SHARJAH A Pakistani father of two teenage girls with special needs is desperately seeking financial help to pay their school fees.

Gulab Ebrahim, 41, working as a driver in Ajman, said he is unable to pay Dh48,000 tuition fees for his daughters who go to a special needs school in Sharjah.

Zainab, 18, and Fatima, 14, - both slow learners – have been studying at Manzil for the last ten years. “Every year, the centre helps me by paying most of their fees. This year, however, they said we have to pay the entire fees by ourselves. I barely earn Dh4,000 a month, I have no idea where I am going to get so much money from,” said Ebrahim who works as a trailer driver ferrying building material from Fujairah to Ajman everyday.

No guarantee

“I cannot send my daughters back to Pakistan as I don’t trust any of my relatives to take care of them properly. I hope we get some help soon.”

Speaking to XPRESS, his wife Hameeda said she first tried sending her older daughter to a regular school where the fees was affordable. “She could not cope and we had to shift her to a special needs school. I used to work as a bus conductor but gave up the job as I felt it was unsafe leaving my daughters alone at home. Zainab is undergoing job training at Manzil, but there is no guarantee when she will start working. Until then we have to find a way out to pay the tuition fees,” the desperate mother said.
