Dubai: Entrepreneurship was highlighted as one of the key elements in the role of women’s empowerment in the UAE at the first Emirati Young Women Entrepreneur Leadership forum at Zayed University.

Raja Eisa Saleh Al Gurg, President of Dubai Business Women’s Council who was the key speaker at the forum, highlighted self-motivation, ambition, and innovation as some of the key elements in the development of the entrepreneurial spirit among women in the UAE.

“By encouraging more women to be entrepreneurs, we are harnessing the largely untapped potential of women to become key contributors to the social and economic development of the society,” she said.

Named the fifth most powerful Arab woman in 2012, Raja shared her own experiences with students at Zayed University, and encouraged them to have self-confidence in order to achieve their goals.

“You need to have a balance between your social responsibilities and your careers and you need honesty and confidence,” she said. Highlighting time management as an important factor in keeping that balance and implementing ideas and goals, Raja also pointed out that success is not achievable without failure. “Failure is success. If you don’t fail, you’ll never succeed,” she added.

The forum included four workshops on essential business and IT skills, effective time management, the art of networking, and digital marketing. Held under the patronage of Shaikha Latifa Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Board Member Emirates Literature Foundation, the forum was organised in collaboration with Dubai Business Women’s Council.
