Abu Dhabi: The main gathering of the Toastmasters in Abu Dhabi was marked yesterday as four winners were announced at a ceremony held at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

George Mathew, conference chair, told Gulf News that the conference focused on four fields.

"These fields are: humorous speeches, table topics, evaluation speeches, and international speech contest."

He added: "The competition was tough and the winners deserve the award as they were all qualified to this level."

The winner of the table contest was Humaid Al Hammadi who also won first place in the evaluation contest.

Happy to participate

"I am happy to win for the second consecutive year. I am an engineer and I am happy to be here to participate and to compete with others. This award gave me confidence in myself as I will be taking part in the forthcoming regional competition in Bahrain," Al Hammadi told Gulf News.

He added: "The Toastmasters have changed my life. Before I could not address even three people, but today I'm confident enough to address a huge audience without fear and hesitation."

Winner of the international speech conference, Melanie Sanchez, said: "I am so happy to win the first place.

"It qualifies me to take part in the contest in Bahrain.

"This has given me great confidence and will guide me more towards achieving better standards in the future."

The winner of the humorous speech contest was Ajith Abu Bakr.

Now a growing number of Emiratis are joining different clubs to explore their talents and help improve their skills in both fields — work and social interaction.

There is a total of 75 clubs in the UAE — 18 in Abu Dhabi, 35 in Dubai and 22 in Sharjah.
