Dubai: When the moment to break fast arrives, Dubai taxi drivers aren’t always able to observe iftar given their driving duties on the emirate’s roads.

But a Dubai hotel firm has been helping taxi drivers to overcome the challenges of staying mobile to keep passengers on the move and on time.

Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa, situated near the old fort deep in the heart of Dubai, has been offering visiting taxi drivers who are picking up hotel visitors free iftar packs to help them honour their Ramadan commitments.

Conducted every year, the iftar pack programme is Arabian Courtyard’s way of demonstrating what it calls “the true spirit of Ramadan and share [its] blessings especially to cab drivers who are diligently performing their duties and at the same time adhering to their religious obligations.”

Habib Khan, general manager, Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa and CEO Hospitality Division of Planet Group, said hundreds of mobile iftar meals will have been handed out this Ramadan.

“The holy month of Ramadan is a month of giving and sharing. We have been doing such activities to share the blessings that we received,” said Khan in a statement. “The taxi drivers are our partners in promoting Dubai and our property to guests visiting the country and we commend them for their commitment to their jobs. They are always ready and willing to serve their customers even though they are fasting, so in return, we prepared their iftar meals so they can break their fast during Ramadan while on the wheel”

The company said that its goal this year is to issue more than 2,000 iftar packs to taxi drivers who are dropping off and picking up hotel guests.
