Abu Dhabi: Children bought 70 per cent of the titles put on display at the India Festival, a testimony that television, internet and digital games have not affected their reading habits, exhibitors say.

Exhibitors at a community event in Abu Dhabi were surprised by the unexpected huge turnout of visitors, mostly families, who purchased thousands of books in three days.

The second edition of the annual event organised by the Indian Social and Cultural Centre (ISC) in Abu Dhabi featured stalls exhibiting and selling paintings, clothes, jewellery, toys and dozens of other items.

Aside from the book stalls, huge crowds were seen on the rooftop where cultural performances were held and Indian cuisine was featured from Thursday to Saturday.

At least 25,000 people visited the event which ended on Saturday night, said M.A. Salam, Honourary General-Secretary of the ISC.
