Sharjah: The Pink Caravan's medical team has screened 1,500 people for breast cancer in the first three days of its campaign, it was announced on Sunday.
Organisers of the campaign, which kicked off last Thursday, expect a steady increase in screening tests over the next few days and are optimistic that they can reach their target of 5000 screening tests in 10 days.
During the weekend, the Pink Caravan's riders made a horseback tour from Fujairah to Khorfakkan and while the riders will arrive in Ras Al Khaimah on Monday, the medical teams will be present at the old Kalba Hospital, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, and Khalifa Hospital in Ajman.
"There is a great deal of organization and punctuality in the Pink Caravan's activities this year. We have also a large number of clinics, elite riders, great support from the public and private sectors and excellent participation from prominent figures in the UAE community, which enriches the Pink Caravan, adds momentum and is helping it to expand and reach every house in the UAE," said Cecile Guillemot head of the Pink Caravan's Higher Committee.
The Pink Caravan's ride aims to spread greater awareness about breast cancer, encourage regular tests, and raise funds to buy a 3D mammogram clinic, which will provide free tests for citizens and expatriates in the country.
The Pink Caravan campaign will run annually until 2014, under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah and under the directives of Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
