Abu Dhabi : The Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has confirmed four new cases of novel Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
HAAD said that epidemiological investigations were immediately initiated in cooperation with the Ministry of Health after the first case of the virus was detected last week. Tests were carried out on 136 people, which included members of medical teams who tended to the patient, as well as the patient’s family members.
It was found that four members of the medical team have contracted the virus. The authority added that they are in a stable conditions and precautionary measures have been taken to prevent the spreading of the virus.
The HAAD stated that it is in constantly in touch with the World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding new updates on the virus. The authority also stressed that the virus is not a concern for public health at the moment, and that the current situation does not require a travel ban to any country in the world, nor screenings at different ports, nor any restrictions on trade.
The ministry added that globally detected cases continue to be very low compared to other types of flu.
