Dubai: The public and private sectors will be given a one-day holiday to mark the New Year on January 1, 2012.

According to a circular issued today by Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Quttami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority, and Saqr Gobash, Minister of Labour, work in federal bodies and the private sectors will resume on January 2, 2012.

Al Quttami and Gobash congratulated President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses, Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates and people of the UAE on the occasion.
 

Banks in the UAE

Banks in the UAE will be closed on Sunday, January 1, on the occasion of New Year holiday, according to the UAE Central Bank.

The Central Bank said that banks will resume their daily operations on January 2, 2012, Monday. It also called on banks in the UAE to ensure that their ATMs are properly stocked with cash at all times.
