Sharjah: Three abandoned babies were found last week in Sharjah, according to a statement by Al Qasimi Hospital.

The three babies underwent medical tests and two of them were referred to a Sharjah orphanage.

An investigation into the origins of the three babies has already begun.

One, a boy, was found to be around five months old while one of the baby girls who was found was said to be around one month old. The second baby girl was believed to be around three days old.

The hospital contacted the Sharjah orphanage and transferred the one-month-old baby girl and the boy after carrying out the necessary tests to determine their health conditions and providing them with medical care.

The youngest, the three-day-old baby girl will be transferred to the orphanage after more tests are carried out and medical care has been given to her.

Medical file

Naeema Khamis, director of the Social Services section at the hospital, said the five-month-old baby boy was found outside a mosque in Sharjah, and pointed out that he was the oldest abandoned baby that the hospital had ever received.

"Usually abandoned babies are only a few days old. The oldest baby the hospital has ever received was not more than two month old," Khamis said.

"The one-month-old baby was found near a villa, and the three-day-old baby was found outside a park," she added.

"Once an abandoned baby is admitted into the hospital, we create a medical file for him or her, and carry out tests to assess their health. They are also provided with all forms of medical and social care, and nutrition. The babies remain in the hospital until ensuring that their condition is stable, or that they are fully cured of any illness. After that, they are transferred to Sharjah orphanage," she said.
