Terry Fox Run to get UAE on its feet for cancer research

Abu Dhabi: The 16th annual Terry Fox Run will once again return to the capital on February 18 to help raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

The run, which will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Sultan Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Adviser to His Highness the President of the UAE, will take place on the Abu Dhabi Corniche at the intersection along 30th Street (Khaleej Al Arabi).

Since its launch in 1995, approximately 65,000 people have participated in the run from around the UAE.

Over 300 volunteers have offered their support for this year's run, including students and professionals, as well as members from the Emirates Foundation's ‘Takatof' programme and the philanthropic ‘Volunteer in Abu Dhabi' group.

Organisers are yet to confirm whether one of the local UAE football teams will make a special appearance and inaugurate the run. The grant money raised by the run will go towards the three Abu Dhabi-supported cancer research projects.

Fast facts

The run will kick-off from the Abu Dhabi Corniche to the car park near the Corniche Hospital, and back. People can walk, run, roller-blade or skateboard, and the course is accessible for people using wheelchairs and strollers.

However, cycling will not be permitted due to safety precautions.

Registration begins at 7am and the run itself will start at 10am.

Donations by cash and cheques will be accepted on the event day.
