When Sharjah-based Gulf News reader Amruta Tavkar heard somebody saying "every bit counts to save the earth", she thought to herself - "Why stop there?"
Gulf News's WoW campaign supporter Tavkar thought it would be more useful to not only practice environmentally friendly habits, but also share them with the world through the internet.
"In January, I created my blog, Green Living, which gives tips on how to wipe out waste, and also save money doing so. I also offer Green Habits," Tavkar, a mechanical engineer, said.
Green Habits explain how to simply save water, electricity, paper and fuel. Habits include reducing the flow of water from taps and avoiding skincare products that damage the ozone layer.
Although Tavkar, a Sharjah resident, was happy to hear that more green buildings are rising in the UAE, she still felt that it is not enough. She said: "At the end of the day we will be living in those buildings, so it matters how we save energy, even if it is changing parts of our daily routine."
The blog also has information on global warming and offers a platform for people to give their opinions and "green" suggestions. You can visit Tavkar's blog at lead-green-life.blogspot.com.
