Abu Dhabi: Many guests at the Kazakhstan Independence Day celebrations felt they were in a Kazakh house in the remote steppes, thanks to the craftsmanship of a Kazakh group.
As well as homemade traditional food, the embassy made a 'Yurt', a historic Kazakh house, filling it with traditional articles and women wearing traditional dress.
"About five men made the skeleton of the 'Yurt' in a day," said Rouslan Kospanov, a staff member at the Kazakh Embassy.
About eight women, led by Zhanar Mussinova, wife of the Kazakh Ambassador spent 10 days decorating the 'Yurt', according to Larissa Syrgabayev, who participated in the preparations, said.
Milestone
"About ten women, the spouses of the embassy staff worked hard on the whole eve of the Independence Day to prepare traditional food for about 350 guests," she told Gulf News.
Dr Hadef Jua'an Al Daheri, UAE Minister of Justice and Shaikh Ali Al Hashemi, religious advisor to the UAE President were the chief guests at the function. Askar Mussinov, The Kazakhstan Ambassador addressed the gathering saying: "It is relevant to note on 17th Independence Day that the year 2008 marked a milestone in the history of the country thanks to the visit of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE to Kazakhstan.
The Ambassador told Gulf News that almost 2,000 Kazakh nationals live in the UAE, most of whom are businessmen, he also detailed the progress of relations between the two countries.
