Sharjah: A young man suffering from blood cancer said his only wish is to go back home.
Mohammad Ali, 22, from Bangladesh came from his home in Dhaka two years ago to work as a helper for a company in Fujairah.
Ali told Gulf News that he came to help his five brothers and sisters and elderly father.
He stayed with his sponsor for a few months but never got a residency visa.
He was left living here illegally as the owner of the company where Ali was supposed to work ran away with the passports of the workers leaving Ali and his colleagues stranded.
A few months after coming here Ali became sick and was twice admitted to hospital.
Two months ago Ali was suffering from dizziness and fever. When he was admitted to hospital he was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia which is a kind of blood cancer and bone marrow failure.
Ali is praying he recovers in order to go home soon.
"I came here to work to help my old father and my three brothers and two sisters," he said.
Ali said he has been ill all the time and he is now going home without anything.
"I now need medical treatment which my family cannot afford," Ali said.
He said, however, he still wants to go back home.
According to doctors at the hospital Ali has been suffering from fever and breathing problems since Thursday night and doctors are planning to move him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). But Ali said he also wishes to listen to Bengali songs.
"Ali is strictly isolated in the hospital as his immunity level is very low," doctors said.
At the moment he is being taken care by some kind-hearted people who are trying to send him home.
Ali is always asking people who are trying to help him why they all are doing all this for him and how and what he can gave them back.
"I am a person who is going to die soon," he said.
According to doctors Ali was very feverish and was initially given blood transfusions and antibiotics.
Doctors said that Ali was earlier admitted to hospital and referred to a specialist unit here, but due to the lack of legal documents the hospital was not able to send him to the specialist unit for treatment. He was then discharged as he planned to go to his country.
Course of antibiotics
However Ali later on fell very ill and did not go to his country and was again admitted to the hospital. He was given a course of antibiotics and since then he is being managed with platelet and blood transfusions.
Doctors said Ali who is going to Bangladesh soon will need treatment at a specialist haematology centre which will be very costly.
Ali told Gulf News that his family were very poor and he needs financial support for treatment.
