Abu Dhbai: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is considering the establishment of a centre to monitor radiation levels, given the growing switch to nuclear energy in the region, said Abdul Latif Al Zayani, GCC secretary-general.
"A technical committee has been formed to study the establishment of the centre to monitor radiation resulting from nuclear expansion in the region," Al Zayani told Gulf News at the opening of the International Security National Resilience Exhibition and Conference at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre yesterday. He did not give a timeframe or potential venue for the centre but assured that all GCC states were gearing up to establish it for the general safety of the region.
The three-day conference which was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, features a host of security solutions under one roof with more than 150 exhibitors from more than 24 countries displaying products and services for security and emergency preparedness.
