Dubai: Four Arab literary figures and writers were announced the winners of the prestigious bi-annual Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Award in its 12th edition on Sunday.

Dr Mohammad Ali Sahmsul Din, Lebanon, won the Poetry award. Radwa Ashour, Egypt won the story and playwrite award and Dr Faisal Darraj, Plaestine, won the literature and critique studies award of the 5-category award. The late Dr Abdul Aziz Al Douri, Iraq, won the human and future studies prize.

The selection of the winners of the four categories was made by a panel of judges who unanimously voted for the four winners from among 1,237 applicants for their distinguished works and rich contribution to Arab culture.

Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Secretary General of the award, said the winner of the cultural achievement award will be selected later by the board of trustees of the foundation as per the rule of the category.
