Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Identity Authority has warned typing centres against overcharging the ID card applicants, a senior official told Gulf News yesterday.

"We have received complaints that some of the certified typing centres have been taking more service charge for the pre-registration process than the approved amount", Dr Ali Al Khoury, Acting General Manager of Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) said.

The authority has warned the typing centres that their certification will be cancelled if they overcharge the applicants, he said.

Transfer

Eida has transferred the pre-registration process including filling out and submitting the application on an applicant's behalf, scanning the original identification documents like passports and fee payment to 104 certified the typing centres in Abu Dhabi. It will complete transferring the PRP in other emirates in the next two months.

The official explained that typing centres can charge only Dh70 extra, apart from the fee for the ID cards. Dh70 includes the service charges for the application form, typing, courier (to send the card to applicant).

Al Khoury asked applicants to report complaints by calling 600 523432. Four committees in four regions are to monitor the functioning of the typing centres, the official said.

Certification: Expanding the process

Eida will complete transferring the pre-registration process to typing centres in four northern emirates by August 15 and in Dubai and Sharjah by September 15, Dr Ali Al Khoury told Gulf News.

"We will complete certifying 40 typing centres — 10 each in Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Ajman by August 15", he said. Dubai and Sharjah will have 50 typing centres — 25 each in both emirates by September 15, Al Khoury said.

The applicants will receive an appointment by SMS within 48 hours of completing the pre-registration process and can visit the Eida centre to complete the registration with signature, fingerprinting and photograph.

Registration for Diplomats optional

Eida on Saturday announced the registration of diplomats in the ID Card and Population Register is optional . "It is due to the peculiarity of diplomatic work and the nature of laws and regulations organising their work and residence in the UAE," Dr Ali Al Khoury said.

The authority said it welcomes the diplomats who want to register for ID cards as per the registration procedures set by Eida. These procedures will be circulated to all embassies and consulates in the UAE.
