Dubai: If you fancy treasure hunts, here’s one with a difference. It’s only for adults and entails only public transport. And no, it doesn’t include taxis.
On October 18, ENOC and the Detour Events Management company, under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council, are throwing a unique challenge to residents to explore Dubai via buses, water buses and the Metro with various sport activities planned along the way.
The team with the best scores will win a prize of Dh10,000.
“The idea is to encourage people to use public transport and reduce their carbon footprint in a fun way. It is also an attempt to promote healthy living and a step towards supporting the government’s ‘go green’ initiative,” said Hana Mathew, Detour’s Marketing Director.
Detour City Hunt, as the event is called, is expecting around 400 participants whose fitness levels will be put to the test at various pit-stop locations.
“Teams of two adults will have to crack clues in order to find the location of the next pit-stop and get there by using every imaginable form of public transport from Metro, buses, water buses or their two feet. No cars or taxis can be used during the competition,” said Hana.
The hunt will begin at 2pm at the BurJuman Centre and culminate at the Al Nasr Sports Club at 8pm, followed by dinner. Open only to residents aged 18 or older, the event is expected to be attended by university students, couples and families.
Hana said this is the biggest public transport-based competition ever organised in the UAE.
