Dubai: Filmmakers keen to put environmental degradation due to climate change in the spotlight are invited to enter a competition marking 10/10/10 - the day celebrating climate solutions.

The Zayed Environmental Impact Network (ZEIN) at Zayed University and 350.org will host a Global Environmental Salon under the slogan 'Consume Wisely' under the patronage of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Ali Al Nuaimi on October 10 at the university in Dubai.

A video competition with a Dh10,000 prize has been launched to coincide with the event. Entries should provide day-to-day solutions on reducing carbon emissions in no more than 10 minutes.

The international grassroots campaign 350.org aims to mobilise a global climate movement. The safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is 350 parts per million (PPM), according to scientists, but the current levels on earth are 392ppm.

The Global Environmental Salon will bring officials and UAE residents together on the same platform to raise awareness, raise voices and reduce emissions.

The deadline for short films on reducing carbon emissions is October 7. Entries should be sent to Dr Usama Al Alami, Associate Professor Health Sciences, Department of Natural Science and Public Health at Zayed University. He can be contacted at Usama.alalami@zu.ac.ae
