Sharjah: A huge fire broke out on Wednesday in Sharjah's industrial area, destroying two warehouses and affecting 24 others.
Colonel Waheed Al Serkal, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News that the fire broke out at 11am in Industrial Area 13, near Moweilah Camp, and was put out before 1pm.
"The warehouses contained furniture and other flammable materials, such as paints, sponges, wood, cardboard and steel. The loss is estimated to be huge and the police are now investigating the cause of the fire, as well as the cost of goods that were destroyed," Al Serkal said.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
The two warehouses that were destroyed in the fire belonged to Oversees Company and Al Badiya Company.
"The fire took almost two hours to extinguish. Although it spread in the area we were able to control it, and the other 24 warehouses in the area were damaged only slightly," Al Serkal said.
Water tankers from Ajman and Dubai Civil Defence also rushed to the scene to put out the fire.
The fire took place a day after a fire broke out in another warehouse containing building materials in Al Saja'a.
