Dubai: Firefighters managed to bring a fire at the Patchi chocolate warehouse under control within two hours on Wednesday night, according to the Dubai Civil Defence.

At least six fire engines were dispatched to deal with the blaze which broke out at around 5.30pm in the Al Quoz Industrial Area 2. No casualties were reported until the filing of this report late on Wednesday night. Strong winds and flying debris made the firefighters’ job even more difficult. The blaze threatened to spread to a neighbouring supermarket.

Civil Defence officials said they received a call about a fire that broke out around 5.39pm in the factory’s warehouse.

It was not known whether anyone was inside the warehouse and members of the public were urged to stay away.

Firefighters faced difficulties due to a lack of proper access to the building, which is surrounded by stores from all sides and could only be reached through two narrow lanes. Paramedics said all the factory workers were safe.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.

This is the second fire to hit Al Quoz this week. On Sunday, a huge fire broke out at two warehouses belonging to Sana Fashions next to a Modern Bakery branch on Street 6b in Al Quoz Industrial Area 3. A body was recovered from the wreckage on Tuesday, Dubai Police said. Another worker is still missing.
