Sharjah: A huge fire destroyed two warehouses of an electronic goods manufacturer in Sharjah Airport Free Zone Tuesday night.
The fire gutted two warehouses completely and two more were partially damaged in the free zone, which is adjacent to the Sharjah international airport.
The fire broke out around 8.30pm. Plumes of thick smoke could be seen coming out of the airport area. “There was only financial loss as stored materials of the two companies were completely destroyed,” Colonel Khalid Bin Kanoon, acting Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News.
It took around an hour for the firefighters to contain the fire before it could spread to nearby premises. Firefighters from Dubai and Ajman joined teams from Sharjah to put out the fire.
The main cause of the blaze will be examined by forensic teams of the Sharjah Police.
Motorists travelling on the Sharjah International Airport road faced traffic delays due to road closures near the free zone.
No injuries were reported.
