GCC-wide survey on executive education launched

Dubai Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) last week announced plans to embark on a collaborative study with academic partner Manchester Business School (MBS) to evaluate the GCC market for executive education. Fieldwork for the project started last week and the results will be announced by the end of the year. The study will cover a range of industry sectors in the region and job profiles including training managers, HR managers, and senior executive/line managers. The study will evaluate the effect of the global economic crisis on the training budget of the corporate sector. It will also analyse the expected return on investment for executive education, how its value is assessed and the expectations of organisations from an executive education provider.

 HBMeU links with University of South Africa

Dubai Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University (HBMeU) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of South Africa (UNISA) for closer cooperation in activities related to education and scientific research. Activities that have been outlined in the agreement include the cooperation between faculty members, departments and research institutes, organisation of joint research programmes and publishing in academic and professional journals, mutual distribution of published books, journals and conference proceedings and mutual access and use of learning and instructional material and other resources.

 40 SAE Institute students win scholarships

Dubai A group of 40 promising students from SAE Institute Dubai have received funding support from prominent Saudi Arabian businessman, Shaikh Abdul Rahman Al Rajhi, to further their studies in audio engineering, 3D animation, digital film-making, multimedia and digital journalism at SAE Institute Dubai. Shaikh Abdul Rahman emphasised the importance of creative media studies for the next generation. He plans to visit the Dubai Knowledge Village campus again this year, to meet his latest cohort of sponsored students and assess their progress.

 IUC official reviews conclave preparations

Abu Dhabi Founder and president of the International Universities Council (IUC) Orhan Hikmet Azizo recently visited the Higher Colleges of Technology and met vice-chancellor and IUC vice-president Dr Tayeb Kamali to discuss the preparations for the inaugural IUC Rectors meeting, scheduled for December in Istanbul, Turkey. The event involves university rectors and vice-chancellors from the Middle East region and other parts of the world, where participants will discuss the possibilities of closer and collaborative relations between their respective institutions.

Growth in higher education sector predicted

Sharjah The International Education Show saw a rise in the number of students seeking higher education opportunities, as 12,149 visitors attended, officials said. About 70 local and foreign colleges, universities and technical institutes and other educational institutions took part in the fair. "The UAE is in the forefront of introducing reforms in the education sector so as to align it with the current needs of the market. At both the federal and zonal levels, policy changes are being implemented to improve the standards of education and better prepare graduates to take up key positions in the workforce," said Saif Mohammad Al Midfa, Director General of Expo Centre Sharjah.
