AUST students win award for entrepreneurship

Dubai : Winners of Tamaiz & Falak Tayyeb Award were honoured in a ceremony held recently in Dubai. Two electrical engineering students from Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) were the recipients of the 5th Prize for Entrepreneurship and Inventions. Walid Khamis and Ahmad Abdul Razzaq won the prize for their project entitled "Embedded Speed Violation Recorder." Their project was recognised for providing an innovative and cost-effective solution to excessive number of fatal accidents in the UAE, due primarily to over-speeding. Unlike conventional radars, that monitor the speed of vehicles on a discrete basis, the new device continuously monitors vehicle speed on UAE highways and records all speed violations.

Emirati woman sets an example

Dubai : Elham Al Qasimi recently visited Dubai Women's College (DWC) to share her experiences as the first Emirati woman to reach the North Pole and inspire young Emirati women to pursue their dreams. Elham is the third in a series of noted local adventurers to visit DWC this month in support of "One Book… One HCT", a month-long reading promotion programme for all HCT students driven by DWC Library and supported by the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy.

AUD students at UN conference

Dubai:  Five American University in Dubai Model United Nations Organisation (AUDMUN) students recently joined participants from universities all over Europe at the Bucharest International Students Model United Nations (BISMUN) conference. This is the second time AUD students attended an MUN conference abroad and the first under the banner of AUDMUN.

AUST offers new programme

Ajman : Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) recently obtained accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for its latest programme — the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, offered by the IT College. The new programme will be launched in the Fall Semester 2010-2011. It will span eight semesters, comprising 123 credit hours. Graduates of the new programme can undertake a variety of job positions at both managerial and technical levels.

Citibank trains DWC students

Dubai:  More than 100 students from Dubai Women's College (DWC) received training from senior managers of Citibank. INJAZ-UAE, the world's largest non-profit business education organisation, organised the event. Its purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in global economy. The training in which the DWC students participated was called JA Banks in Action. Through classroom activities and local competitions, the programme teaches students the principles of the banking industry.
