Dubai: A new KG admission policy for children starting school from the 2014-15 academic year has been introduced by the federal government of the UAE, in collaboration with local educational authorities.

According to the new policy, the cut-off date for admission age to schools starting their academic year in September has changed to December 31. While the cut-off age for admission date for schools starting their academic year in April has changed to July 31.

The children must complete four years of age by the end of the academic year.

This ruling will take effect from the beginning of the 2014-15 academic year for schools starting in September and 2015-16 for schools starting in September.

All students must be enrolled in school by the age of six. This is the equivalent of Grade 1 or Year 2.

Abdul Eahman Nasser, Chief of Customer Relations at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said: “This policy will ensure uniformity across the schools sector in the UAE and that each child receives the best possible start to their education.”

KHDA has informed Dubai private schools of these changes. Schools must update their admission policies as soon as possible and communicate the same to parents.
