Dubai: Two women landed in court yesterday facing charges of mutual assault and exchanging foul language when one of them allegedly squirted her strawberry juice at the other.

The 41-year-old Belgian housewife and the 38-year-old German woman appeared before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court yesterday and denied charges of exchanging curses and mutual assault.

The German defendant claimed to prosecutors that the Belgian woman threw her juice on her while her car window was open.

Meanwhile, the Belgian countered the German's allegations and claimed that her juice "mistakenly and unintentionally" slipped from her hand and fell on the 38-year-old.

According to the charge sheet, the Public Prosecution charged the two suspects with assaulting each other and exchanging curses as well.

The German and the Belgian pleaded not guilty before Presiding Judge Saeed Qayed in courtroom nine yesterday.

The 41-year-old alleged in her police statement that the 38-year-old woman almost ran over her when she drove her car slowly and inattentively in the parking lot of a mall.

She claimed that when she warned the German, the latter spoke to her rudely and then called her bad names.

The Belgian's lawyer asked the court yesterday to adjourn the case until he submits his defence.

Sources close to the investigation told Gulf News: "The housewife claimed that she mistakenly poured the juice on the German. The Belgian alleged that while she stood in front of the car to talk to the 38-year-old woman, the latter surprisingly opened her window completely." According to the source, the Belgian said she was near the window and the juice accidentally fell. The German called the police and both were questioned at the Jebel Ali police station. Investigations revealed that they cursed and assaulted each other, the source said.

The case is adjourned until April 26.

Reconciliation efforts between the two failed.
