Sharjah: Sharjah Police have become the first police service in the state to launch a smartphone web app.

The Sharjah Police News website – www.shjpolice.gov.ae – is formatted for iPhone, Android and Windows mobile smartphones.

The new service was launched by Major General Humaid Mohammad Al Hudaidi, General Commander of Sharjah Police, on Sunday.

The app will feature news and services including police operations and serious road accidents.

“Members of the public now have quick and convenient access to a wide range of news, information and updates from the Sharjah Police in the palm of their hand,” the police said.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said, “The Sharjah Police Department is proud to announce the launch of its newest community-oriented policing and crime fighting tool in the form of a smartphone app for your Android or iPhone.”

“The Sharjah Police news web page features a variety of news drawn into six categories.

The web page can be displayed on the mobile phone in Arabic and English.

Police already use Twitter and Facebook, YouTube and Instagram to provide details about police issues and news .

“These digital technologies have been extremely successful and generated positive response from both media and the community,” a police official said.

So far the Sharjah Police website has received more than 12,987,753 visitors.

Maj Gen Al Hudaidi lauded the efforts of all those taking part in enriching Sharjah Police’s smart services.

The service can be obtained via the Sharjah Police website www.shjpolice.gov.ae on smartphones.
