Abu Dhabi: Police are to be given sophisticated vehicles to help them with on-scene investigations.
The vehicles are equipped to allow better processing of evidence collected on site, a police officer said on Saturday.
Major Salem Khalifa Al Darei, Director of the Crime Scene Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the department's teams removed prints and traces from crime scenes in 3,782 cases in the first half of this year.
Of these, 2,073 cases were in Abu Dhabi, 1,273 cases were in Al Ain, and 418 cases were in the Western region. A total of 18 cases involved major crimes, he said.
Major Al Darei said June saw the highest number of cases — 684 — followed by January with 553 cases, March (642), May (626), April 615 and February 562 cases.

He said the new crime scene vehicles were equipped with high-tech evidence-collecting equipment that helped police move prints directly from the crime scene to the criminal investigation laboratory for examination and analysis.
The vehicles are also equipped with call centre, search lights, tents and an electric generator, Major Al Darei said.
