Sharjah: A man was sentenced by a court in Sharjah to three months in jail followed by deportation for forging the stamp and seal of the UAE consulate in Pakistan which he used to approve his forged educational certificate.
Sh.M, a 31-year-old Pakistani, was arrested by police in Sharjah after he submitted the forged educational certificate to the Foreign Ministry Office in Sharjah for approval.
The Foreign Ministry office in Sharjah informed police that a man submitted forged documents and that the document had a forged stamp and seal of the UAE consulate in Islamabad.
Sh.M told the public prosecutor that he had no idea that it was a forged document and that he just sent it to his friend in Pakistan to authorise it for him so he [Sh.M] could use it here. Sh.M told the public prosecutor that he was unaware of any forgery in the document.
Original document
Sh.M. pleaded with the Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance to give him time to submit to the court original document, which was granted to him.
According to police it was clear that the document was forged as it was only a photocopy.
The documents were checked by the forensic laboratory of Sharjah Police which ascertained that they were forged.
Sh.M failed to show the court any original document.
The court found Sh.M guilty of forgery and said his denial was only to escape punishment.
According to UAE federal law the punishment for such a crime could exceed 15 years in jail.
However, the court granted Sh.M leniency according to article 98 of the Punitive Federal law and handed him only three months in jail followed by deportation.
The accused who is on bail has appealed his sentence to the Appeals Court in Sharjah.
