Ras Al Khaimah: The Criminal Court has given a Syrian suspect a life sentence and his Emirati partner five years imprisonment on charges of human trafficking on Wednesday.
A senior court official said that the Syrian primary suspect in the case will be deported from the UAE after serving his term.
The official stressed that the two suspects were found guilty of human trafficking and forcing three Moroccan women into prostitution.
The case started with a report from the women victims to the emirate's Police accusing the two suspects of forcing them into prostitution after they seduced them into coming to the UAE, according to the official.
The Police then reached the women who were locked in a house in a remote area and questioned them, after which they officially lodged complaints against the two suspects who brought them in the UAE.
According to the women, they were to work in various professions, pay the suspects the charges for bringing them into the country as well as other expenses (from their monthly salaries) after being employed.
The investigations of the emirate's police and Public Prosecution clearly showed that the primary suspect in the case bargained with the women, seized their passports and forced them to go into prostitution to pay him back the money he paid for their visas, air tickets and other charges.
The Syrian suspect forced them into prostitution, claiming that their work will only be temporary and that once they settled their debts, they could start their lives again.
The court official said that investigations into the case showed that the primary suspect raped one of the women and the second suspect rented a house for the women in the remote area.
