Dubai: A jobless man has been accused of beating up two workers and threatening to kill one of them if he reported the police about the assault.
Prosecutors accused the 21-year-old Indian man, G.S., of beating his countrymen workers, 36-year-old M.S. and 27-year-old B.J., and threatening to kill M.S. if he reported the matter to the police. The suspect was additionally charged with ripping off B.J.'s chemise.
The suspect failed to appear before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
Presiding Judge Mohammad Jamal Kamel adjourned the case until tomorrow for the suspect to show up.
B.J. testified that the incident happened when he was walking towards a supermarket along with his friend, B.J., in Al Qouz Industrial Area.
"We left the supermarket after three minutes and we were walking back home, M.S. was walking behind me… suddenly his mobile phone fell on the ground. He picked it up and put it back in his pocket. Meanwhile G.S. and another man came towards us… they beat M.S. who fell down on the ground. When I tried to stop them, G.S. hit me on my back, ripped off my shirt then pushed me away. G.S. and the other man ran away. Then a group of men came and took us to G.S., who threatened to kill M.S. if he told the police," B.J. claimed to prosecutors.
M.S. testified that the defendant hit him and kicked him and verbally threatened to kill him by saying ‘I will kill you if you report the matter to the police'.
A Sri Lankan witness testified that he heard the defendant threatening to kill M.S. in Urdu language. He said he saw G.S.'s ripped off chemise.
