Dubai: Prosecutors will start having full-fledged access to cases they are investigating anytime anywhere, using their iPads thanks to a newly launched e-service called e-prosecutor.

E-prosecutor is a brand new and first-of-its-kind initiative that enables prosecutors at Dubai Public Prosecution (DPP) to access their cases and take swift decisions through their iPads, according to Yousuf Al Mutawa, DPP's First General Prosecutor.

"E-prosecutor is an electronic service that enables prosecutors to remain remotely connected to the cases they are investigating 24/7… such unique initiative helps prosecutors access the case's data file and take decisions or do transactions anytime and from any place, even from across the boarders. Via iPads, prosecutors can now access their cases remotely and enforce court decisions quickly and swiftly.

"They could also access court decisions and hearings' minutes. The system further allows prosecutors to check whether defendants carried out the court punishments or not…," Al Mutawa told a media gathering on Wednesday.

E-prosecutor will assist DPP in rendering swifter litigation and adjudication processes, added First General Prosecutor.

"This new application is very safe. It was programmed upon high security measures and no one can hack it or access it except prosecutors… each prosecutor has his or her own login name and pass code," said Al Mutawa.

Meanwhile Khalifa Bin Deemas, First Attorney General and Head of the Attorney General's Technical Office, said DPP has launched the second batch of e-laws [application that creates accessibility to 11 UAE laws] and made it downloadable on iPads.

"We have launched this new e-service because the iPads' screens are bigger and more user friendly. The service is available for members of the judicial industry and the public as well," he said.

Bin Deemas announced that nearly 5000 persons downloaded the e-laws application on their iPhones since beginning of 2011.

Meanwhile Al Mutawa said: "During the first week of launching the e-laws, nearly 8000 persons downloaded it on their iPhones. The application was mostly downloaded by users living in US, Saudi Arabia and UAE."

E-laws has a search engine which is friendly to the user to browse for any required information in the 11 laws. The laws and articles can also be emailed.

The announcment was made in Gitex yesterday.
