Dubai: A woman has been left traumatised after a man allegedly flashed at her and performed an indecent act in public, Gulf News can report.
The concerned mother, a resident of The Gardens in Jebel Ali, has warned of a stocky man who stands at nearly six feet who left her shocked with his wanton behaviour near her apartment before making good his escape.
Dubai Police have been made aware of the incident near the woman’s apartment entrance on Thursday night. Security at the residential complex claim this is not the first such case reported in the area,
The horrified woman, who did not want to be named, told Gulf News: “I was about to get my groceries from my car when this man leaned on the car next to mine. He pulled down his pants, stared at me and began touching his private parts.”
The woman, who has been living at The Gardens for six years, added: “I shouted, ‘Oh my God! What are you doing?’, but he just continued and didn’t shy away. I left my trolley and ran.”
The man is described as stocky, in his 30s, almost six feet tall, and fair-skinned.
Police stepped up patrolling in the area after the woman reported the incident but the suspect managed to flee the area and has not been caught.
He has been reportedly going around the community and in some cases following women inside buildings and subjecting them to his perverted acts.
Security at The Gardens confirmed to Gulf News that they had recently received two other reports about a suspect who matched the description committing indecent acts in front of women.
One incident was reported at a pool area on a Ladies Day last week. “He is here every 15 days. Twice I spotted him near Pool 1 at Building 33. He’d look for ladies then do his act,” Zahed, a lifeguard on duty at the time, told Gulf News. “He’d be here anytime during the day or in the evening.”
Building security staff say the man appeared to be “familiar” with the area because of the ease with which he entered or left the premises unnoticed. They have no further information as to his identity or whereabouts but assured residents they are doing whatever they can to catch him.
The head of security at the complex said only two guards patrol the common areas since other members of the security staff assigned to the apartment buildings were withdrawn 10 months ago by the developer.
The victim of the most recent incident says she now fears for her life as well as for her children, who often venture outside the apartment to play.
“What I’m afraid of is what if he goes to the next level? If he was able to brazenly stand there in front of my door and do that, imagine what he will do next if he gets bored with what he’s doing now,” she asked.
