Dubai: A court has jailed a driver for three months for using someone else's special permit to drive his truck into Jebel Ali Port and offering cash to a supervisor to let him through.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 29-year-old Pakistani to three months in jail.

Prosecutors accused the defendant, S.K., of paying a Dh200 bribe to a security supervisor (after a security guard held him at Jebel Ali Port's main gate) to allow him to go and not hand him over to the police.

He was also charged with using another trucker's special permit to enter the port.

Deportation

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout said the accused will be deported after serving his punishment.

When the defendant appeared in court, he denied the bribery charge and claimed that he thought he was paying a fine.

The Emirati security supervisor testified the incident happened when the security guard, P.K., told him that the accused tried to use someone else's permit to drive his truck into the port.

Prosecution records said the Emirati reported the matter to his boss.

The defendant was handed over to Jebel Ali Police Station.

The primary judgment remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
