Abu Dhabi: A man plunged to his death from the 26th floor of a high rise on Salam Street yesterday morning, Gulf News has learnt.
The incident happened around 10am, an Abu Dhabi police official said.
The man has been identified as S.S, an Indian national.
"His body was cut into half and severely mutilated due to the impact of the fall", said the official, who asked not to be named.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the man may have committed suicide, said the official, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
According to him the numbers of cases of suicides are especially high among certain Asian nationalities.
"Jumping off the building and hanging to death are the two most common methods used to commit suicide here", he said. Further details on the case were not available from the police immediately.
"It was a gruesome sight…blood was spread all over the place", an eyewitness said. Officials cordoned off the scene.
On Tuesday, in separate cases, two people were rushed to the Shaikh Khalifa Medical City following suicide attempts.
