Dubai: Police dismantled an international drug smuggling and promotion gang and arrested 21 suspects in cooperation with Abu Dhabi and Oman police bodies.

The gang's two directors have been identified, and the authorities in Pakistan, where they reside, have been informed to arrest them, said  Major General Abdul Jalil Mahdi, Dierctor of Dubai Police's Anti-Narcotics Department.

The 21 suspects, who have been arrested since July last year, attempted to smuggle heroine capsules in their guts.

By studying the criminal style of various suspects, police were able to identify a pattern. "We identified five points that all suspects have in common, such as their ages, social backgrounds and the fact that they all came to the UAE on a visit visa and on the cheapest airlines," Major General Abdul Jalil said.

After informing police authorities in neighbouring countries about the suspected activity, police arrested the 21 suspects, who also led to the importers in the UAE and suppliers in Pakistan.
