Dubai: A manager has been jailed for ten years for raping a businesswoman inside her bedroom.

The 28-year-old Egyptian manager, A.A., was said to have led the 28-year-old Belarusian businesswoman into believing he wanted to discuss business with her. A.A. will later be deported.

His lawyer had earlier called the victim a “mischief maker” and said she had tried to frame his client to make money “like many other women do.”

According to Wednesday’s ruling, presiding judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi decided that the evidence brought against the defendant, including DNA evidence and bruises on the woman, was enough to find A.A. guilty.

The woman had been spotted on CCTV chasing the defendant and pulling him out of the lift, while naked.

A.A.’s lawyer had earlier argued in court: “Why would my client tell the police that she had locked him up inside her residence? He had to break his way out and run away from her. Surveillance camera footage clearly showed her chasing my client while she was naked. She went up and down several floors naked. She assaulted him and pulled him out of the elevator when he tried to leave.”

The woman failed to testify in court after residency records confirmed that she had left the country.

Wednesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
