Synergy, the youth group, for the second time celebrated National Environment Day by planting 34 trees at the Tadweer Waste Composting Plant in Dubai and encouraging the youth to get an insight on waste composting and waste management, thus reducing and lifting the pressure off the landfills. The enthusiastic group observed the 17th National Environment Day by dedicating the first 17 trees to the present generation and the following half to the future generations.

Under the patronage of Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the country marks the National Environment Day on February 4 every year and the week follows activities and events to highlight and galvanise public action and awareness about key environmental issues in the UAE. The aim is to support the spirit of individual and collective initiatives and responsibility among all segments of the society on environmental issues.

I experienced that the young members of Synergy have been successful in penetrating the message into the civil society by various environment actions. We have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and only then are we going to contribute and build a sustainable future. I am glad that our work is noticed and recognised at various global platforms to gain a more sustainable society.

Synergy and the members cherish the recent recognition for their participation at the Clean Up the World Award Ceremony by Dubai Municipality and acknowledge with gratitude the encouragement and support provided by the authorities.

Touring the facility, the youngsters got an opportunity to see the process of solid waste sorting and recycling, understanding the sorting process and end composting products. The demonstrations of how the composting process is conducted from the waste were very informative. This event also marks the testimony of Tadweer’s mission that goes beyond the commercial purposes and aims at creating and establishing a quality environment through educational partnerships and leadership, increasing waste reduction, recycling and resource conservation.

With all the motivation, I look forward to participating as an official delegate at the United Nation’s First Arab States Regional South-South Development Expo to be held in Doha Qatar later this month.
