Riyadh: Disposable cash belonging to Saudi women in commercial banks has exceeded the 375 billion Saudi Riyals (about $100 billion or Dh367 billion) mark, government statistics show.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s official statistics published on Wednesday, though their deposits are high, women only account for 7.3 per cent of commercial registrations issued by the ministry, Saudi media reported.

The Council of Saudi Chambers’ women division will organise a number of workshops this month in Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah to promote women’s participation in economic and trade activities. These workshops will carry the theme of ways and means of further promoting investments by women in the Saudi Kingdom.

A number of businessmen, businesswomen, and lawyers will participate in the workshops on various topics of concern, including how to provide women in business with support to boost their ventures.

The workshops will also discuss hurdles facing Saudi businesswomen with a view to finding solutions to them.

According to the statistics, about 5.1 per cent of manpower in the labour market are women, accounting for about 49.6 per cent of the total population.
