Riyadh: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has signed three executive programmes with the UN agencies.
The programmes came within Saudi Arabia’s response to the United Nations appeal for Yemen on April 17, 2015.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), King Salman Centre disclosed that the first programme is signed with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The agreement totals $1,743,000 with the first disbursement paid totaling $871,000.
The main scope of the collaboration is providing support for local farmers and food producers to ensure food security as well as providing financial support to encourage local production and aid in the harvesting processes in addition to providing psycho-social support to victims.
The centre added that the second agreement with the World Health Organisation (WHO) totals $22,197,163 with the first disbursement paid totaling $5,547,174. The main scope of the collaboration is to reduce morbidity and mortality of most vulnerable populations, including women and children in addition to provision of life saving emergency health, nutrition and environmental health services, including critical medicines and medical supplies. This agreement covers all regions of Yemen and is expected to benefit 7.5 million people.
King Salman Centre added that the third agreement is signed with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef). The agreement totals $29,600,000 with the first disbursement paid totaling $8,880,000.
The main scope of the collaboration is a provision of nutritional and therapeutic programme for children under 5 years of age including pregnant and lactating mothers in addition to providing water and sanitation programmes. The agreement included women, newborns and children access to lifesaving health intervention services. This collaboration aims to support existing and expansion of monitoring and reporting mechanism, provide affected children and families with mine risk awareness and with psycho-social support.
This agreement cover all regions of Yemen and is expected to benefit 2.7 million people. The statement disclosed that the total disbursement for the three UN agencies is $15,298,774.
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is also expecting to sign with other UN agencies in the next few days. The centre is extremely keen to finalise the agreements with the remaining agencies and invites them to cooperate and come forwards in order to assist the Kingdom and King Salman Centre in meeting the aim and principles of the appeal to help alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
Arab League chief reaffirms support for Saudi-led coalition forces
In Cairo, Nabil Al Araby, the Arab League Secretary-General, on Saturday reiterated support for Saudi-led Arab coalition forces, as well as the legitimacy in Yemen of President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi and his government, presided over by Khaled Bahah.
Al Araby condemned the recent bombings and attacks carried out by Houthi militias against Arab coalition forces in Yemen, confirming his support for the coalition’s efforts in enabling state institutions to resume their national role, and restoring security and stability in Yemen.
The Arab League chief also expressed appreciation to the coalition forces’ efforts in supporting the establishment of security, stability, and development in Yemen, providing valuable contributions to humanitarian aid and relief, and supporting the Yemeni government’s efforts in reconstructing the country’ institutions.
He stressed the importance of the Houthis’ commitment to implement national dialogue and the GCC initiative.
