Paris Hilton has angered some Muslims by opening a fashion shop in the holy city of Makkah.

The socialite and heiress announced the official unveiling on Twitter, prompting a hostile response.

Some said she was “insulting Makkah” while others condemned the “affront” to the “principal sanctuary” of Islam.

Miss Hilton, 31, is known for her skimpy outfits and once starred in a sex video which went viral on the internet.

One tweet read simply: “R * kidding?” and another raged: “It is not acceptable to have such a woman open her store here.”

But Miss Hilton said she was “loving my beautiful new store” selling bags and accessories in the Saudi Arabian city, the 42nd in her global chain.
