Manama: A Frenchman, a Greek and two Eritreans were arrested this month in Saudi Arabia, taking the number of those detained on security-related charges in the kingdom to 5,311, the Saudi interior ministry portal that lists the cases of detainees shows.
The two Eritreans hold residency permits while the French and the Greek have passports and the four were arrested on January 11 and 14 by the Presidency of State Security.
The four suspects were referred to investigators ahead of the justice procedures in such cases, Saudi daily Okaz reported on Wednesday.
According to the Interior Ministry’s Nafetha (Window) website, they are the only French and Greek nationals to be under investigation in security-related cases.
The site lists five US nationals, including one who has been convicted, but no suspect from the United Kingdom.
Last month, the portal showed that four Russian citizens, including three with regular residence permits and one holding a travel ticket, were arrested. They were the first Russian nationals to be arrested on terrorism charges in the kingdom, and the portal shows that they are still under investigation.
Nafetha indicates that 19 Indians and 89 Pakistanis had been arrested.
